Experience

April has been writing and editing professionally since 2009. She has covered weird history and weirder pop culture for outlets such as Rue Morgue Magazine, Mental Floss, Fangoria, and CrimeReads; given lectures on how historical events have shaped the horror genre; moderated celebrity panels at pop culture conventions; and served as a juror on film festival and literary award panels across the country. April has written in-depth features about topics ranging from the cultural biography of the Ouija board and the morbid history of Victorian anatomical models to the moral panic over midcentury crime comics and the life and legacy of Shirley Jackson. As an editor, she has worked on novels, nonfiction books, comic books, graphic novels, and scripts. She lives in Tennessee with her wife, their daughter, two recalcitrant cats, an exhaustingly enthusiastic dog, and a 7-foot animatronic werewolf named C. Thomas Howl.
